Learn moreLakeland is the largest city in Polk County, with 38 named lakes. Lake Parker is the biggest at about 2,550 acres, and Lake Mirror, Lake Morton and Lake Hollingsworth sit in the middle of town.
Lakeland's historic neighborhoods include Dixieland, built mostly from 1905 to 1940, with Craftsman bungalows, and Beacon Hill, built from 1923 to 1945, where the live oak is the neighborhood symbol. Lake Hunter Terrace has homes on brick piers. Mature canopy fills gutters with leaves, so gutter guards are worth a look, and downspouts on a raised house should empty well away from the piers.
During Hurricane Milton in 2024, 12 to 16 inches of rain fell in Central Florida and water from upstream rivers pushed into Lakeland's lakes. Lake Parker rose over several roads and homes along Lake Bonny flooded. Lakeland's airport recorded its all-time one-day rainfall record that day, 8.93 inches. Gutters cannot stop a lake from rising. They keep roof water off your walls so it does not add to the problem.
Lakeland charges a flat monthly stormwater fee on residential bills, $9.72 in 2026, scheduled by a 2026 city ordinance to step up each January, to $10.89 in 2027. The Southwest Florida Water Management District also says never to fill or block stormwater ponds, swales or retention areas. Make sure downspouts do not empty into a swale or pond in a way that blocks it.
Besides Lakeland, we work throughout Polk County, including Auburndale, Winter Haven, Bartow. See all service areas.
