Soffit and fascia

Soffit and Fascia Installation and Repair in Central Florida

Soffit and fascia are the boards and panels under and along your roof edge. They keep water, insects and animals out of the roof structure, and your gutters hang from the fascia. We install, replace and repair both, often together with new gutters.

The basicsWhat is Soffit and Fascia

Soffit is the material that covers the underside of the roof overhang, from the exterior wall out to the roof edge. Fascia is the board along the edge of the roof that the gutter attaches to.

Soffit does more than hide the rafter ends. Vented soffit panels let outside air into the attic. Paired with exhaust vents higher up, that airflow helps control moisture and heat. Trade sources note that many shingle manufacturers require proper attic ventilation for warranty coverage.

Materials include wood, vinyl, aluminum and fiber cement. Wood is traditional but needs the most upkeep, with repainting roughly every five to seven years. Vinyl and aluminum resist rot and need less maintenance.

Why it mattersBenefits

Protects the roof edge

Sound fascia and soffit keep water, insects, birds and small animals out of the roof structure.

Supports your gutters

Gutters are fastened to the fascia, so solid boards hold them up properly.

Supports attic airflow

Vented soffit panels bring in outside air, which helps with moisture and heat in the attic.

Cleaner look

New panels and boards restore a finished roof edge.

Less maintenance with the right material

Vinyl and aluminum resist rot and avoid regular repainting.

Catch problems early

Repairing a small damaged area costs less than waiting for rot to spread.

How it worksThe installation process

  1. Inspect the roof edge

We check for soft or rotted wood, peeling paint, stains, sagging panels and gaps where pests can get in.

  2. Decide: repair or replace

Small damaged areas can sometimes be repaired. Widespread rot or damage usually calls for replacement.

  3. Remove damaged material

Gutters may need to come off, and bad boards and panels are removed to check what is behind them.

  4. Fix what is underneath

Any damaged framing found behind the old material is addressed or flagged before covering it.

  5. Install new fascia and soffit

New fascia boards or cover and soffit panels go in, using vented panels where the home needs airflow.

  6. Re-hang the gutters

If gutters were removed, they are reinstalled or replaced on the new fascia.

Is it right for you?Is it right for your home?

Often a good fit when

  • You see soft or rotted wood, peeling or bubbling paint, or stains along the roof edge.
  • Panels under the overhang are sagging or have holes where insects or birds get in.
  • You are replacing gutters and the fascia behind them is damaged.
  • You want a lower-maintenance finish than painted wood.

Worth thinking about

  • Repair can be enough for small, isolated damage. Replacement makes more sense when rot is widespread.
  • Overflowing gutters are a common cause of fascia and soffit damage, so fix the water problem too, not just the boards.
  • Do not seal off the vents. Soffit that was vented should stay vented, or the attic can lose airflow.
  • HOA communities may set rules on color and material.

What affects the price

  • Material (wood, vinyl, aluminum, other)
  • Extent of rot or damage

Keeping it in shape

Keep gutters clean so they do not overflow onto the roof edge. Look along the eaves once or twice a year for peeling paint, stains, sagging or gaps, and repair damage promptly.

FAQsQuestions we hear

What is the difference between soffit and fascia?

Soffit covers the underside of the roof overhang. Fascia is the board along the roof edge, and it is where the gutter attaches.

How do I know if my soffit or fascia needs replacing?

Look for soft or rotted wood, peeling or bubbling paint, stains where water has run behind the gutter, sagging panels under the overhang, and gaps where birds or insects can get in. Small damaged areas can sometimes be repaired.

Do I need to replace fascia before new gutters?

If the fascia is soft or rotted, yes. Gutters need solid wood to hold the hangers, so we fix damaged boards first.

Should my soffit be vented?

Many homes use vented soffit as part of their attic airflow, paired with exhaust vents higher up. We can replace vented and solid soffit as needed. If you are unsure, ask at your estimate.

What material should I choose?

Vinyl and aluminum resist rot and need little upkeep. Wood suits traditional homes but needs painting and maintenance. We can talk through options for your home.
