Learn moreBartow is the county seat of Polk County, and it sits near the headwaters of the Peace River just south of Lake Hancock. Phosphate mining shaped the town, and many of its homes are older.
Bartow has three National Register districts: Downtown Commercial, Northeast Bartow Residential, which dates to 1886, and South Bartow Residential. A Historic Architecture Review Board regulates new construction in them, so check with the city before changing the outside of a home in one of those districts.
After Hurricane Ian in 2022, the Peace River rose over a boat launch and sidewalk at a Bartow park, and a mobile home park by the river had knee-high water in back. The river and its floodplain are the documented flood risk here. Polk County Floodplain Management at (863) 534-6765 can tell you about your address. Gutters do not prevent river flooding, but they keep roof water off your walls.
Bartow averages about 51 inches of rain a year, with roughly 7 to 8 inches a month from June through September and under 2 inches in November. A system that works in February can be overwhelmed in July, so we size gutters and downspouts for the wet season.
Besides Bartow, we work throughout Polk County, including Lakeland, Lake Wales, Auburndale. See all service areas.
