The basicsWhat is Gutter Cleaning and Maintenance

Gutters collect leaves, seeds, pine needles and roof grit. When the trough fills, rain spills over the sides or backs up under the roof edge instead of flowing to the downspouts.

Home-improvement guidance says most homes need cleaning once or twice a year, often in spring and fall. Homes under overhanging trees, in storm-prone areas, or with repeat clogs need it more often. Where winters are mild, time cleanings around leaf drop and the rainy season.

Maintenance goes beyond clearing debris. It includes checking that downspouts are open, hangers are tight, seams are sealed and the gutters still slope toward the outlets.

Why it mattersBenefits

Protects the roof edge

Overflow can rot the fascia and the roof edge.

Protects the foundation and yard

Water that spills at the wall can soak the soil, erode planting beds and wash out mulch.

Prevents sagging

Wet debris is heavy and can pull gutters loose from the house.

Reduces pests and mold

Standing water and debris shelter insects and rodents and keep surfaces damp.

Finds small problems early

An inspection catches loose hangers, leaking seams or damaged downspouts before they get worse.

How it worksHow a visit works

  1. Inspect the system

We look at the gutters, hangers, seams and downspouts before cleaning.

  2. Clear the gutters

Leaves, seeds, pine needles and grit are removed from the troughs.

  3. Clear the downspouts

We make sure water runs freely through the downspouts and out the bottom.

  4. Check for repairs

We note loose hangers, leaks, sagging runs or damaged downspouts.

  5. Flow test

Water is run through the system to confirm it drains correctly.

  6. Report and clean up

We tell you what we found, recommend any repairs, and leave the area clean.

Is it right for you?Is it right for your home?

Often a good fit when

  • Water spills over the edge of your gutters in the rain.
  • Little or no water comes out of the downspouts.
  • You see plants growing in the gutters or debris above the gutter line.
  • Gutters are sagging or pulling away from the fascia.
  • You have trees close to the roof and do not want to clean them yourself.

Worth thinking about

  • If your gutters are full at every cleaning, you may need more visits or guards. If they stay nearly empty, you can space visits out.
  • Gutter guards reduce cleaning but do not eliminate it.
  • Cleaning does not fix damaged gutters. If we find sagging, leaks or rot, we will recommend repairs.

FAQsQuestions we hear

How often should gutters be cleaned?

Most homes need cleaning once or twice a year. Homes near trees, in storm-prone areas, or with repeat clogs may need it more often.

What are the signs my gutters need cleaning?

Water spilling over the edge during rain, little water coming out of the downspouts, debris above the gutter line, plants growing in the gutters, sagging gutters, and water pooling near the foundation.

What can clogged gutters damage?

Fascia and roof-edge boards, soil and mulch around the home, the foundation area, and the gutters themselves. They can also shelter pests and add moisture and mold.

Do gutter guards mean I never have to clean?

No. Guards block large debris but still need occasional checks and rinsing so buildup does not block water.

Do you offer a maintenance plan?

Yes. See our Maintenance Plan page for the plan details and what is included.
