Learn moreWest Melbourne grew from about 4,900 housing units in 2000 to more than 11,000 in 2020, so most homes are newer and many neighborhoods sit around retention ponds and canals.
With housing units more than doubling between 2000 and 2020, well over half of the city's homes were built after 2000. The common jobs are replacing undersized or sectional builder gutters with seamless gutters, adding downspouts on long roof runs, and adjusting where water lands on smaller lots.
The Melbourne-Tillman Water Control District, created by the Legislature in 1922, maintains about 163 miles of canals and more than 2,300 acres of canal right-of-way, and West Melbourne appoints one of its seven board members. Keep downspouts, extensions and yard debris off district right-of-way. Contact the district at (321) 723-7233 if you are unsure where a boundary runs.
West Melbourne incorporated in 1959, so some older homes sit among the newer subdivisions. On older houses we check fascia and rafter tails for rot before hanging new gutters, since water behind old gutters is a common cause of damage.
Besides West Melbourne, we work throughout Brevard County, including Melbourne, Palm Bay, Viera. See all service areas.
